My First Wreath (DIY Tutorial Included)

I noticed I come up with all the crafty ideas of things I want to make but I never actually make them.
Am I the only one who does this?
Okay so I decided one day I would absolutely love to go to the mall and just hang out. I just had to check out Hobby Lobby because they have such amazing things there. While I was walking around I noticed that they had so many things there to make a Christmas wreath that I have been wanting to make for quite sometime.
On impulse I just started buying things, I can honestly say sometimes that is a good thing but the majority of the time it's not! *giggles* Alright I then went to a few other stores in the mall and bought the rest of the supplies that I had needed to get my masterpiece done.
Supplies I Used:
Styrofoam Wreath (Hobby Lobby)
Pink Glitter Wired Ribbon (Hobby Lobby)
Striped Glitter Wired Ribbon (Hobby Lobby)
Green Satin Ribbon (Walmart *not in picture explained in the steps*)
White Mesh (Hobby Lobby)
Bulbs/Lights (Bought in HUGE mason type far at The Christmas Tree Shop)
Noel Sign (The Christmas Tree Sop; It was actually a door hanging but I took off the ribbon that it hangs from)
Glue Sticks (Dollar Store)
U-Shaped Floral Wire Pins (Walmart)
Glue Gun
Scissors
Step One:
I originally did not take a photo with the green satin ribbon because at first I had no intentions in using it. I did notice that white mesh over white Styrofoam did not make my wreath look how I imagined. I went through my bin of ribbon to find one that matched and this green satin one was a perfect fit.
I started off by taking the green mesh ribbon and I pinned it down with one U-Shaped floral wire pins. I kept wrapping the green satin ribbon tightly around the Styrofoam wreath until it was completely wrapped pinning the end of the ribbon with one U-Shaped floral wire pins.
Tada it's all wrapped with and no longer a blah white color, it's now pretty and green.

Step Two:
This step I will not lie to you it's very tedious and when I was done my poor fingers were hurting. Maybe I'm just a little wimp. HA! Some parts of your Styrofoam may be a bit harder to push down the U-Shaped floral wire pins than other spots. I though I'd give you a heads up on that.
Grab the beginning of the mesh and pinch it together. You want to pin it down to the inner part of your Styrofoam wreath. I did not measure in inches how much space between pinching the mesh, I estimated a hand width apart from the pinned part of the mesh to the next part of the mesh I will be pinning.
So after going one hand width from the first pinned part of the mesh I grabbed the part of the mesh that I will be pinning. Gently pinch that part of the mesh and bring it towards the outside of your Styrofoam wreath. Pin the part of the mesh with one U-Shaped floral wire pin. Measure a hand width from the mesh that has just been pinned. Pinch the mesh and pin it towards the inner part of the Styrofoam wreath.
You're going to keep pinning down the mesh following the inner and outside pattern that I have been mentioning until your wreath is completely covered.
After it's all covered in mesh it should look something like this. You can fluff up the mesh by finding the spots that you feel should be fluffed up and gently pulling up until you get the desired look.
Step Three:
Now I honestly just measured the stripped ribbon by placing the beginning of the ribbon on the back of the wreath and wrapping it around somewhat diagonally around. I cut that part of the ribbon and used that strip of ribbon to measure and cut five more strips. (six strips all together)
I then took one on those strips pinned one end down on the back of the wreath. Then wrapped it diagonally around the mesh and pinned the end down on the back of the wreath. I continued until I used all six strips of the ribbon were used.
Step Four:
This part I believe I kept redoing because it just wasn't working for what I visualized. I ended up just leaving it alone afterwards because hey it's my first wreath I ever made. *giggles*
I used a pink glitter ribbon for this step. I grabbed the beginning part of the ribbon and I placed it under one of the stripped ribbons. Pin that part of the ribbon down with a U-Shaped floral wire pin. Bring the rest of the ribbon on top of the mesh to the next stripped ribbon. Enough for it to go under the stripped ribbon. Cut it and pin that end down with a U-Shaped floral wire pin. Repeat that process. It'll look like you are kind of weaving the pink glitter ribbon.
Step Five:
You want to take your mini string of lights and weave them how ever you would like them on the wreath. I did not pin them down. I actually used my glue gun for this step.
I found exactly how I wanted the lights appear on this wreath. I then wear the thick part near the light bulb is located and I put a little bit of hot glue on it and I held it onto either the mesh/ribbon. It really depends on where that particular light bulb is located. I repeated this until every light bulb was glued so it did not fall apart.
Step Six:
Okay so this was actually a Christmas door hanging, but I figured that I could take off the ribbon that was used to hang it up and just glue this beauty to my wreath.
I took my pretty glitterfied Noel hanging and I position it until I absolutely fell in love with the was it was positioned. I then little by little used my hot glue gun to glue it to the mesh/ribbon depending on location. I only hot glued the left side, the middle and the right side. I waited a few minutes until the hot glue was completely dried. I picked up the wreath just to make sure it was not going to fall off.
Step Seven:
I grabbed out a bunch of Christmas balls to put all over the wreath. I believe I grabbed three of each color. I placed the balls all over the wreath just to see where and how I liked it. I then picked one and glue it back into place. I repeated that process until each Christmas ball was glued into place and Voila!
It was all done! I want to say this took me an hour to do. I kept taking breaks. HA!
This is how it looked when I had the lights on. I am very pleased with the ending results. This being my first wreath I'm sure there are mistakes but honestly I will not be hard on myself. I am just excited I actually made something so beautiful.
I hope that this wasn't confusing to you and you are more than welcome to ask me any questions you may have about this. I will be more than happy to try and make what ever step less confusing. :)
